5th September 2019 : Williams Physics Tenure-track Theory/Computation open position

Dear all,

Our department is searching for a tenure-track assistant professor with
a theory and/or computation focus, completely open with regard to field.
I have copied the text of the ad below. Deadline is October 25th for
full consideration (though we’ll look at things that sneak in after
that). Please spread the word to anyone you think may be interested, or
apply yourselves!

I’ve found the Williams College and the Physics department to be a
wonderful environment for both me and my research: the students are
excellent; my colleagues are friendly and supportive; and the College
also very supportive in terms of resources, facilities, and
administration. It’s a young and lively department — about half junior
faculty at the moment — and overall a fun and productive place to do
physics. I would be very happy to chat with anyone further about my
experience here.

Best,
Kate

Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Physics

WILLIAMS COLLEGE

The Physics Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position, with teaching duties starting September 2020. A more
senior appointment may be possible in exceptional circumstances. We seek
an energetic individual eager to teach throughout the undergraduate
curriculum and to involve undergraduates in research with a theoretical
or computational focus. Startup funds will be available.

The department has nine full-time members and graduates approximately 16
physics majors annually, the majority of whom pursue advanced study or
careers in physics or some related field. Present research areas include
experimental atomic physics, particle physics, and hard and soft
condensed matter as well as theoretical biophysics, particle physics,
and quantum information. For more information
see http://physics.williams.edu .

The Department is committed to building a diverse and inclusive
community. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute
to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community
through their research, teaching, and service, and who are committed to
working effectively with a diverse student population. We welcome
applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in
the field.

Applications should be submitted via Interfolio and should include a
c.v., a research statement that details plans for undergraduate
involvement, a statement of teaching interests, and at least three
letters of reference. Your application should speak to your ability to
teach effectively and conduct research with a student population that is
broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality,
sexual orientation and religion.

Applications completed by October 25th will receive full consideration.
All offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background
check. Further information is available here:
